Recipe for Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Recipe for Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients:

12 cabbage leaves

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup cooked rice

1 onion, finely chopped

1 egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon thyme

For the Sauce:

1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce

1 tablespoon tomato paste

2 tablespoons brown sugar

3 tablespoons lemon juice

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Prepare the Cabbage:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Blanch the cabbage leaves for about 2 minutes or until just softened. Drain and set aside to cool.

Make the Filling:

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, egg, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix until well blended.

Assemble the Rolls:

Take each cabbage leaf and trim the thick vein from the bottom to make it easier to roll.

Place a suitable amount of filling (about 2-3 tablespoons) on the bottom of each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll up tightly to enclose the filling.

Prepare the Sauce:

In a saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for a few minutes until the sauce is heated through and slightly thickened.

Cook the Cabbage Rolls:

Place the rolls seam side down in a baking dish.

Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls, ensuring they are well-covered.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour, or until the meat is cooked through.

Serve:

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot.

These cabbage rolls are a satisfying meal that combines tender cabbage with a hearty meat filling, all topped with a deliciously tangy tomato sauce.
