Recipe for Pecan Caramel Bars
Ingredients:
For the Crust:
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
For the Filling:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup honey
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 cups pecans, roughly chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal.
Make the Crust:
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
Add the diced butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Bake for 18-20 minutes until just golden. Remove from the oven and let cool while you prepare the filling.
Prepare the Filling:
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, honey, and butter.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chopped pecans.
Assemble and Bake:
Pour the pecan filling over the pre-baked crust, spreading evenly.
Return to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the filling is set.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Finish and Serve:
Once cooled, use the overhanging parchment to lift the bars out of the pan.
Cut into squares or rectangles.
Serve as is, or optionally, drizzle with additional caramel or chocolate sauce for extra decadence.
These pecan caramel bars offer a delightful combination of crunchy nuts and sweet caramel atop a buttery crust.
