Italian Stromboli Recipe – MarraTrips

Stromboli is a delicious Italian-American stuffed bread, filled with meats and cheese, rolled into a log, and baked until golden brown. This recipe uses Pillsbury pizza dough and a variety of deli meats, making it an easy yet flavorful dish that can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or main meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube of Pillsbury pizza crust
  • 8 slices of deli ham
  • 10 slices of Genoa salami
  • 12 slices of sandwich pepperoni
  • 8 slices of provolone or mozzarella cheese (shredded cheese works too)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese

Directions:

1. Prepare the Garlic Butter Topping

  • Melt the butter in the microwave and stir in the minced garlic, chopped parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Dough

  • Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the Pillsbury pizza dough tube.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • Roll out the pizza dough to roughly the size of the baking sheet, creating a rectangle.

3. Layer the Meats and Cheese

  • Start by layering the deli ham evenly across the dough, leaving about an inch of space around the edges.
  • Next, add the Genoa salami on top of the ham.
  • Then, layer the sandwich pepperoni.
  • Finally, layer the provolone or mozzarella cheese slices (or sprinkle shredded cheese if preferred).

4. Roll the Stromboli

  • Starting from the long side, carefully roll the dough into a log, tucking the meats and cheese inside.
  • Seal the seam well by pinching the dough together to prevent it from opening while baking.
  • Seal the ends by pinching them closed and tucking any excess dough underneath.

5. Prepare for Baking

  • Use a serrated knife to score the top of the Stromboli a few times, allowing steam to escape during baking.
  • Brush the top of the Stromboli with the garlic butter mixture to add flavor and a golden-brown finish.

6. Bake the Stromboli

  • Place the Stromboli on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake according to the time and temperature listed on the Pillsbury pizza dough package (typically 12-15 minutes at 400°F), but do not par-bake the dough as you would for a regular pizza.
  • The Stromboli is ready when it is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

7. Serve

  • Slice the Stromboli into thick pieces.
  • Serve with marinara sauce on the side for dipping (optional).

Notes:

  • Customize your Stromboli: Feel free to add other ingredients like sautéed vegetables, olives, or red sauce inside the Stromboli before rolling if you prefer.
  • Marinara dipping: Traditional Stromboli often includes red sauce inside, but you can skip it if you prefer dipping the baked slices into marinara or your favorite sauce.

Enjoy your Italian Stromboli, a cheesy, savory treat that’s perfect for any occasion!
