Ingredients:
For the Base:
1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (50g) rolled oats
1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
For the Caramel Layer:
1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup or corn syrup
1/2 cup (120ml) condensed milk
For the Chocolate Topping:
1 1/2 cups (270g) milk or dark chocolate chips
1 tablespoon coconut oil or butter (optional, for smoother chocolate)
Instructions:
Prepare the Base:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and melted butter until well mixed.
Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
Make the Caramel:
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, golden syrup, and condensed milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Reduce heat to a simmer and continue to cook and stir for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
Pour the caramel over the baked base, spreading evenly. Allow to set slightly while preparing the chocolate.
Prepare the Chocolate Topping:
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips with coconut oil or butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.
Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, spreading evenly with a spatula.
Chill and Serve:
Refrigerate the tray for at least 1-2 hours until the chocolate is firm and the caramel is set.
Lift the entire block out of the pan using the parchment paper. Slice into squares with a sharp knife.
Keep stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
These chocolate caramel squares are rich, decadent, and perfect for sharing at gatherings or enjoying as a special treat. Enjoy your baking and the delightful results!
