Crispy Baked Onion Rings Recipe
Ingredients:
2 large onions, sliced into 1/4-inch thick rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
2 cups panko breadcrumbs
Cooking spray
Optional: chopped fresh herbs (like parsley) for garnish
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with cooking spray.
Prepare the Dredging Stations:
In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
In another shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk.
Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.
Dredge the Onion Rings:
Separate the onion slices into rings, discarding the smallest rounds.
Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
Dip next into the egg mixture, and then coat thoroughly with the panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the onion rings to ensure a good coat.
Arrange on Baking Sheet:
Place the coated onion rings on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Spray lightly with cooking spray to help them crisp up.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, then flip each onion ring and continue baking for another 5-10 minutes or until both sides are golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
Sprinkle with chopped herbs if using, and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as ketchup, ranch dressing, or a spicy mayo.
This oven-baked version of onion rings offers a healthier alternative to the traditional fried method, reducing the oil but still delivering a satisfying crunch and flavor.
Enjoy crafting this crowd-pleasing snack!
